WWRF 018: How to Plan for a Wild 2017!

The first week of December and we are now into the last stretch of 2016. Wow!

It’s been such an amazing year! With 2017 just around the corner, we have sooo many exciting things planned for the Wild Woman Run Free community. I really want to tell you all about it, but you’ll have to wait for the unveiling!!!

Anyway, since this is the last stretch of a magical year, today’s episode is about planning for a Wild new year and how to kick it off with a bang!!!

Starting a new year, is always one of the best times to get your new years’ resolutions together, to ride the wave of a fresh new year and really get excited about your plans and goals.

Whether your goal is to start your own business, follow your passions or to work on a project that you’ve always wanted to do and been putting off, then this episode is for you!

Now is the time, to get some planning underway. Because I know from first hand experience that once you start getting everything down on paper and start breaking it all down into little steps, the universe will start attracting opportunities your way!

The great thing about setting goals is that it gives you clarity and helps you achieve them a hell of a lot easier and faster than if you didn’t set them.

That’s why this episode is an extremely important one!

My mentor Marie Forleo always says Clarity = Power. So the more you are clear on what you want to achieve and why you want to achieve them, the better off you will be.

    So lovely ladies…

So how do we set goals?

There is no right or wrong way to set goals. Everyone has their own preference and it’s really up to the individual on what works for them.

I’ll take you through how I plan my year, to get your ideas flowing and choose what works for you. I’ll also take you through some of the tools that I’ve used in the past year, that has helped me keep track of my goals and crush them!

Step 1: Write it all down

Most of us have many things that we want to achieve and most of the time, it’s floating around in our heads. So the first thing we need to do, is to write it all down. Write down all your goals and break them all down into categories.

Example, under the category FAMILY… you might have, build stronger relationships with your children. Under the CAREER category… you could have Start A business… Under HEALTH … you may want to lose weight and tone up. So set some quality time, without any interruption to do this first…

You can do this on a sheet of paper, in a beautiful journal, in an excel sheet or to make it fun, go to the stationery store and buy yourself some coloured cards that you can stick onto a corkboard. Whatever works for you.

And remember, that the more specific you are, the better. So go into detail about what you want, why you want it, when you want to achieve it and how it feels when you get it. When you attach feelings and emotions to this activity, you will attach positive emotions to the task and anchor it deep into your soul. And when you do this, it increases the likelihood of achievement!

Step 2: Break it down baby!

Sometimes, writing your goals can be very daunting. It might seem like its near impossible or too much of a stretch. Remember big goals, is just a collection of mini goals that you set for yourself, and as long as you are achieving the simple mini goals, you know you’re on the right track to achieving your main goals.

So let’s say you want to start your own business. What are the main things you need to do to get it started? Write that all down!

First you need to make a decision on what type of business, what products and services could you sell? Who can you help with your products or services? What is the business name? How do you want to position your business in the market? What kind of marketing activities could you do to get your business out there?

Break it all down into little pieces… and if need be… break it all down again, into minute action steps. What do you need to do to achieve this? The key is to have all the steps written down. This then becomes your roadmap to achieving your goals…

Step 3: Cross it off your list!

Now this is my favourite part! Once I have the roadmap and the dates of when I want to achieve the set goals, I then put it into a project management tool that can help me ensure that I am on top of it all! There are many tools out there. I use three in particular. Asana, my planner pad and my corkboard! I like to have my goals on the wall in front of me, next to my desk. So that if I ever need to quickly refer to it, I can. Plus it looks fantastic and it also acts as my vision board!

I put everything on coloured cardboard and I stick it up in sequence. Every time I complete a mini task, I either take it off the board, or I put a bright orange sticker on the card! The pure action of crossing it off the board, brings me so much pleasure and it motivates me to crossing off more!

However, on top of all of that. I also use a program called Asana. Some people use Trello. Trello is a software version of the process that I just talked about with the coloured cards and boards. If that’s something you are into, then check it out at www.trello.com.

I like Asana myself, because you can list all the small task that need to be completed for each project and you can add the due date as well. You can share with your team of collaborators and you can also set reminders! It’s perfect to help you keep track of all your major projects and it’s free!

So check it out at www.asana.com.

    Celebrate the small wins!

Another thing that I like doing is to celebrate the small wins! Every time you complete a task, give yourself a pat on the back! Don’t ever forget to celebrate the small wins, because by doing so, you will always feel inspired, you’ll feel like you’re achieving what you set out to do and you’ll be motivated to continue on, while having fun!

    Be mindful of your time!

Next tip to start your year with a bang is… to be mindful of your time. ALWAYS! Life has a way of distracting us from our goals and you know it!

So, get yourself a nice planner! I particularly like the Planner Pads myself, because it filters all the major projects down into mini tasks and you can distribute each task by week, by day and by hour. You can also buy a nice leather cover for it, so this is what I use. I’m a sucker for stationery and leather!

For those of you outside of the U.S, you will have to pay the shipping costs, so it can get a tad pricey, but it’s worth it!

You can also get some great planners from Inkwell Press. These planners are great for entrepreneurs, it’s very simple to use, however, it is difficult to track progress and it’s good for simple, one revenue businesses.

For the BOHO spirituality woman, you can get Leonie Dawson’s Shining Year Workbook and Diary Planner. It’s great for planning your business and your life! It’s colourful and helps you let go of all the old stuff to help you move onwards. And it includes probing questions to help you find out what your soul wants! It’s different and extremely handy!

For all of you hard-core entrepreneurs out there, you gotta check out The Freedom Journal by John Lee Dumas! The freedom journal is a hardcover journal that helps entrepreneurs set and accomplish their #1 in 100 days! This journal is a unique step by step process that other successful entrepreneurs use and it’s all collated into one beautiful journal, to help you crush it in your business!

There are so many planners out there and it’s up to you, which one works well with how you work. Some of you might like the electronic version! So just follow your heart!

Before I leave you, I want to leave you with something to think about it…

The one thing that all successful people have in common, is their amazing ability to plan and set goals.

So if you can get into the habit of planning and setting your own goals, you’ll be fast forwarding yourself to success.

I’d love to hear what you thought of this episode!
